"Before I start on my show Blog piece, can I just ask my
secret show pal to pull his or her finger out and give me some "secret
action". How can I ever guess who you are if you do not send me a message.
We only had 1 letter in the post box this week, I reckon we can do a lot better
than that. It was not me either by the way so no clues there.
Back to Jekyll & Hyde, I have been looking across the
internet at various J&H web sites. There are Groupies who hunt out the
shows and will travel dressed up as their favourite characters, just to see a
production. I imagine it is a bit like the rocky horror show theme ? Well I
will be contacting a few of the groups and get them to pitch up on mass in
their costumes etc.You never know we
may even get a few new members .....................
I know I am still new to all this Am Dram stuff, but I
still cannot believe we are so close toshow week and I only know/remember half of 1 dance. I keep asking Claire
"Are you sure we are going to be OK this close without a Sir Danvers"
? All I get in reply is a giggle or at best a "It's your turn to make the tea babes" We must have some one who knows some one. If not Claire we will
be relying on your Dunkirk spirit to get into costume and give us that cross
dressing Sir Danvers. I am sure this will be a neat twist for the J&H
groupies.
Staying with the "New theme" it is great to see
so many new members doing this show with Ricky players. I know a lot of you are
not new to appearing on stage, but you must agree they are a friendly bunch. In
the short time I have been involved in amateur dramatics it is interesting how
varied the different groups and companies are. Some I have found take
themselves far too seriously and certainly make it hard for a total novice
enjoy the experience.
I stumbled into Ricky Players by chancein September 2007. Yes they are a fun bunch
and socialize a lot more than most. (This is a good thing by the way) But I
have learnt so much, from the setting up a band pit, right through to the fake
kicking a man in the genitals. The last was courtesy of Mark Howden-Smith,
which has been an invaluable skill at christenings, weddings and funerals.
Thank you Mark. But you will find they are also a very professional bunch at
Ricky and work hard. My best advice to any of the new people is if your not
sure ask, they will laugh with you, not at you. There is a wealth of ability
and knowledge and they are all only too happy to help you out.Except Claire, she will just have you making
the tea as she will be far too busy cross dressing unless we pull our fingers
out."
It's week 3 in the Jekyll & Hyde Rehearsal Room. Vee is in the Diary Room....
"We've blasted on to the floor with a bang as we set chorus number Facade tonight. Sarah was not kidding when she said the chorus would not be the ambling on sort, as we've been weaving in and out of each other, with purpose, poise and attitude. We're split into rich and poor groups, ducking, pointing and sneering at each other and all this whilst singing the right bits. It is so clever!!
I was pulled aside by the wardrobe ladies and tried on some more posh costumes and given a big bum! The wardrobe ladies really seem to know what they're doing and it's quite nice being dressed, fussed and fluffed over! Fellow rich bird, Fiona and I were a bit jealous of all the cool moves the poor people get to do, but as a rich person we do get to wear some really fab costumes, so that's me happy!
The post box for the secret pal messages was made and one message has already been delivered from it."
It's week 2 in the Jekyll & Hyde Rehearsal Room. Jill is in the Diary Room....
"Last Saturday my house was invaded
by 8 sewing ladies, ready to crawl around on the floor cutting out bustle
patterns and altering costumes to fit. Making the bustles was quite a challenge
for one of our new volunteers, Jo, and proved very satisfying when one was
completed and stuffed.
'Does my bum look big in this?' was the cry
when the ladies in the cast tried it on on Monday at rehearsal.
I think our new volunteers enjoyed
the experience and especially the bring and eat lunch during a break in the
day.
There are workshops planned every
other Saturday from now on so look out for some lovely costumes eventually.
It's day 1 in the Jekyll & Hyde Rehearsal Room. Vee is in the diary room.....
"Wow, what a start to rehearsals. We kicked off with the first chorus number, Facade. It was fine after we established that "Poor", "Rich" and "Bari" were not additional named cast members but in actual fact poor people, rich people (yeah, I was one of those who thought it was short for Richard), and baritone. I'm a rich person (I like to think I am but my bank balance would probably disagree). We also had a bit of a discussion about what the direction in the score "deep backphrase" meant. Answers on a postcard. We sounded pretty good by the end of the night. Now we just need to learn it.
A really nice idea that Sarah (director) introduced was the "secret pal". We all had to draw names out of a cup and whoever we've drawn is our secret pal. The idea is we can send them a secret note of encouragement without revealing who we are.
We haven't got long to learn the music. Can't wait for next week."
